'Ennis-Brown will win new fans with big performance,' says trainer Jon Pitman

TRAINER Jon Pitman says Gloucester super-lightweight Akeem Ennis-Brown is ready to make the most of his platform when he faces Philip Bowes on Friday 20th March.

The pair will go head-to-head at London’s York Hall after their original bout was postponed at the end of 2019.

Since it has been rearranged, it’s been announced that the British and Commonwealth title fight will be televised live on Sky Sports.

Pitman admits he is relieved that the fight has been rescheduled and believes his man can make the most of his opportunity to win over some new fans.

“When the fight was postponed it was just really weird scenario so I’m really glad we have been able to put it all behind us and get the fight rescheduled again,” said Pitman.

“The fact he we can still fight Bowes is great, it’s only right that we face him and I’m glad we are.

“This time around the fight is on a bigger platform and more people are going to be able to see the fight, so that suits us in the long run.

“The more he gets to showcase his skills – how quick he is and how slick he is the better because I think people will enjoy watching him.

“I just think everyone is going to get to know him soon and they’ll like him because he’s one of those people that other people just gravitate to.”

Despite Bowes having the benefit of a home crowd, Pitman says Ennis-Brown’s ruthless attitude means he is more than confident the 24-year-old will not be phased on the night.

“He’s not intimidated by anyone’s talk or anything, he is just fearless,” he added.

“We could turn up to York Hall and there would be 500 Phillip Bowes fans compared to 25 of ours and it wouldn’t make a difference to him, if anything it would probably spur him on.

“If he’s in the room, then everyone knows he is in the room and he’s not scared of anything.”
